The Old Man's Heart

WHAT IT IS

It's bad on an old man's heart,
the old man says, watching his son's
son play ball. Ladies in the stands,
mothers, grandmothers, laugh
at him laughing. He sits like this
all day, through both games.
He sat here yesterday, too.
No harm, no harm, he says,
when the boys make a play,
his white hair waving signs,
You boys. You boys, no fear, no fear.
