love, preferring it to “rich or poor,” because many times it’s those surrounded
with riches, who are the most needy. La Cruz Subversiva, that went to prison
for the sins of the state, gets cleaned up in preparation for the celebration.

una cruz de madera
qué
llevaba a la prisión.
Fue
en el año 89
a
seis Jesuistas mataron,
y
la policia fue en busca
del
Obispo pa’ matarlo
El
Obispo pidió exilio
y a
Guatemala
pero
la cruz de madera
en
su iglesia la dejó
La
policia y el gobierno
estaban
muy enojados.
Mandaron
traer la cruz,
y
la carcel la mandaron
Tomaron
quince personas
y a
la carcel los llevaron.
Esta
cruz es subversiva
igual
qué la de Calvario
Los
errores del
y
los crimines qué llevó,
nos
enseña a todo el pueblo
qué
la cruz nos liberó.
La
cruz parece pasiva
pero
aquí no demostró
qué
el Obispo con su iglesia
a
esa cruz la liberó.
Qué
llevaba en procesión
de
la carcel qué sacada,
y
hasta el palacio llegó
y a
su iglesia regresada.
Esta
cruz fue subversiva
nos
invita a caminar
nos
enseña la justicia

No hay un barco para salvarnos, dice Obispo Medardo
Gómez, de la Iglesia Luterana en El Salvador, después de Huracan Ida en 2009.
Obispo Gómez es un caminante con los pobres, y la gente aquí son su gente. El
pueblo de Dios tiene esperanza cuando luchamos para derechos humanos.

A new church, 21 new houses, and a way forward for the El
Salvadoran Lutheran Pastoral team under the leadership of Obispo Medardo Gómez.
El Salvadoran pastor Santiago Rodríquez explains how the fund is working now as
Cristo Rey Community worships in their new house for the first time after the
earthquake of 2001. Lutheran Pastor Rodríguez discusses the importance of the
Endowment Fund during a time of crisis, and also as a symbol of hope and human dignity.
Background for the interview is the first worship service of the new church of
Cristo Rey, built by Habitat El Salvador and Thrivent. January, 2015.

Dream Confrontation: Habitat for Humanity
Earthquake, 2001, hits Cristo Rey, Santa Ana, El
Salvador, hard. A month later, it hits again. Houses and church destroyed.
Today, 17 January 2015, 21 new houses have been built, and the ‘casa común, the
church is blessed and dedicated. Here, the elder of the community and the young
prophets, speak with new strength. Habitat for Humanity out of the box. Work
crews, Thrivent, International work crews, together.
After the Earthquake, A Church
Habitat for Humanity, Thrivent, International Work Crews,
the Lutheran Church El Salvador, combine to build a new “casa común”—a new
worship center—and church. Here is the final day of work, and the dedication
