MY BROTHER LEAVING SEASIDE

        --for Chuck

Waving goodbye to my brother

in the rain, we stop under parked garage

and pick up a coffee coaster

left in the back seat of my car,

gift for his granddaughter’s

teacher, BEST TEACHER,

during National Teacher’s Week.

My brother’s been doing pushups

in the Fitness Room. We’ve walked

on sand five days in a row.

He’s got chocolate chip cookies

beside him in the passenger seat.

He’s alone now. We wave.

It was as wonderful

as he said it was. Rain

now, and rain forecast

for the rest of the week.
