A TROPHY FOR BRAVE WOMEN

#2 IN A SHORT SERIES
INVOLVING HUNDREDS OF STEPS

Wife, daughter, grand daughter
to Seattle for talk with daughter's physician,
carrying the trophy disease
as cause for city celebration.
The mother creates the softest blanket
in the known textile world for her daughter.
Solitary in a room built for singing
a man walks the yard looking for new buds
on bonsai trees. He asks himself,
How's the myelin cover on your brain?
New growth surrounds him
where he can't permit himself to be
among the wreck of is and was.
